I was thinking about that movie scene the other day when I was buying the bird feeder picture here in this post for our newly “spruced up” back yard fix up. Now we are enjoying watching the birds come into our yard to eat and sing and relieve themselves… my motivation was completely unselfish. We now have two granddaughters, and the oldest one who is two just loves animals! I am looking forward to the day when we can sit out back and watch the birds come into the yard to eat. It will bring such joy to her and the smile on her face will be priceless.
The innocence of a child, finding happiness in simple things and always eager to help.
As I was filling the feeder and hanging it in the yard, I thought of the words of Jesus when he said, “There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.” (Matthew 6, The Message)
You and I are far more valuable than the birds… If we are willing to take care of some birds from the neighborhood, how much more is God willing and able to take care of us? We are His greatest creation; He gave His own life as a sacrifice so that we can experience a full and rich life in this lifetime and in the next one to come.
Don’t worry… feed the birds!
